Ashadha Amavasya Vrat

Ashadha Amavasya holds great significance in Hindu religion. It comes in Krishna Paksha of Ashadha month, which is the 4th month of Hindu Year (according to Hindu calendar). Pind Pradhan and Pitru Tarpan perform on this day is considered highly favorable. Bath in holy rivers of spiritual places or pilgrimages also hold great importance on Ashadha Amavasya.

Ashadha Amavasya Vrat and Rituals

Like every Amavasya, Pitru Tarpan is of great importance on Ashadha Amavasya also. The spiritual Vrat rituals perform on this day are as follows:

• Take a bathing in a holy river, pond or lake in the morning. Offer Argh to the Sun God, then offer oblation (Tarpan) to ancestors.
• Donate and Fast things to the poor, for the peaceful afterlife of your ancestors.
• On this day, light a mustard oil lamp under the Peepal tree in the evening. Circumambulate (Parikrama) 7 times around the tree while remembering your forefathers.

Importance of Ashadha Amavasya

As per Hindu Panchang, Ashadha is the 4th month of Indian year and is followed by Monsoon or Rainy Season. Ashadha Amavasya is considering highly successful for the spiritual activities perform for homey peace, and donation and charity. If this Amavasya falls on Monday, it is called Somvati Amavasya and if it falls on Saturday, then it is called as Shani Amavasya. On this Ashadha Amavasya day, bath in holy rivers of spiritual places offer highly favorable results.
